While Springfield increased in a ranking of best performing metropolitan areas by how well they are creating and sustaining jobs and economic growth, both St. Louis and Kansas City dropped.
Springfield climbed to 60 from 67 in the 2011 Best-Performing Cities report by the Milken Institute, an economic think tank.
Kansas City fell from 60 to 137. St. Louis fell from 44 to 90.
The components of the index include job, wage and salary, and technology growth. According to the think tank, the results from the 200 cities in most years provide a good indication of the underlying structural performance of each region’s economy.
Springfield also recently placed third in a report for gaining jobs.
24/7 Wall St., a financial analysis company, reported the employment rate increased 4.96 percent in Springfield, placing behind Pueblo, Colorado in second, and Fort Wayne, Indiana in the top spot.
