A proposal to build an oil pipeline across the state gained the support of Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon.
The governor joined with officials from Shelby County Tuesday to voice his support for the project.
The Flanagan South Pipeline, proposed by Enbridge Inc. in Calgary, Alberta, would run around 600 miles from Flanagan, Illinois to Cushing, Oklahoma, crossing 11 counties in the Show-Me State.
The pipeline would follow the existing Spearhead Pipeline System.
“Major investments in domestic pipelines create skilled construction jobs, support community growth and ensure reliable access to North American energy,” Nixon said in a prepared statement.
Enbridge is conducting a binding open season to recruit potential customers to participate in the pipeline project. The energy delivery company is also conducting civil and environmental surveys.
The potential investment, along the entire pipeline, could total $1.9 billion.
Pending regulatory approval, plans call for construction to begin in the middle of next year.

Wouldn’t it be a lot cheaper and less risky to take the pipeline to Wood River refinery? But if it goes to Cushing, of course from there to Houston to be exported!!! I thought we needed the oil here?
